Lenny Kravitz spreads the love at V Festival

Lenny Kravitz got all Miss World on the V Stage crowd this evening (Sunday), calling for "peace on earth", thanking God and calling for 'amens'.

If that was a bit much to stomach for some, the US star did entertain in Chelmsford with a career spanning set which overran as the crowd cheered for him to continue.

Visibly charged by the response he received, Kravitz tore over the barrier to greet fans before returning to close with a rabble rousing ‘Are You Going To Go My Way’.

Every rock cliché was covered, from the leather jacket and shades to the Flying V guitar and ‘80s solos, but the double header of ‘American Woman’ and ‘Fly Away’ proved the singer’s talents.

Over on the 4Music Stage, Reverend And The Makers also skirted a few rock clichés with singer Jon McClure in his usual vociferous spirits.

Introducing ‘Holiday’, he said: “This song is called ‘why do British people act like bell ends when they go on holiday to Spain, Cyprus and Greece. It’s not really called that, it would be too long for the record.”

He also had a pop at Amy Winehouse, or at least people who listen to her, when one fan shouted “I love you” towards the stage.

“You love me?” he said. “That’s probably because you don’t read tabloid papers or listen to Amy Winehouse. Wait, let me rephrase that, it’s because you’re not a knob head.”

Beforehand on the same stage, Scouting For Girls drew without doubt their biggest ever UK audience with almost everyone knowing the words to their hits.

Clearly moved as tens of thousands sang along to their hits, singer Ray Stride told the crowd: “You’re as much a part of this as we are. We just play the stupid songs.”

The pop trio pulled off a great cover of ‘Fools Rush In’ and completed their set with ‘Elvis Ain’t Dead’, with Stride allowing the crowd to sing along unaccompanied to most of it.

Up in Staffordshire, Maximo Park played a greatest hits set, while Lost Prophets opted for more obscure tracks in their afternoon set, leaving out several of their big numbers. Perhaps it was due to the loss of one of their guitarists who was reportedly rushed to hospital the previous evening.

Jamie T got everyone dancing in the JJB Arena, kicking off with ‘If You Got The Money’, just as he had in Chelmsford, before testing new track ‘Sticks And Stones’.
