The Script play secret gig at V Festival

Up and coming Irish act, The Script, followed in the footsteps of Foo Fighters last year by playing a secret gig at V Festival Chelmsford.

The band are number one in the Irish chart and expecting to make it big when their debut album is released here shortly.

Following Maximo Park’s tight set, which included new song ‘The Kids Are Sick Again’, The Script scuttled on stage to reel off a couple of songs before The Kooks made their entrance.

The Irish newcomers played a scheduled set in the JJB Arena earlier in the day and organisers are not ruling out more secret gigs over the weekend.

Earlier, Paul Smith from Maximo Park did his bit for the Virgin brand by asking the crowd to hold up their palms in a 'V', before he took a photo of the spectacle from stage.

He then told the crowd: "If any of you know Larry David from 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' you'll know you've just made a very rude gesture."

Over on the 4Music Stage Duffy introduced the song ‘Serious’ saying “I have to admit V Festival I can’t dance, so dance for me”.

After ‘Rockferry’ she added: “I’d just like to comment what a wonderful crowd you are. I haven’t been to many festival so I’m popping my V cherry for you”.

The soul singer looked completely overwhelmed by the crowd’s reaction to ‘Warwick Avenue’ but it was nothing compared to the reception for closed ‘Mercy’.

In the JJB, Amy Macdonald mixed old and new as she represented her Scottish roots wearing a tartan skirt. She played a brand new song ‘Troubled Soul’, introducing it as: “A song that no one has really heard before.” While before playing 'Youth Of Today’ she told the crowd: “This is the oldest song on my album. I wrote it six years ago in my bedroom and now I’m standing in the plains of Essex playing it”. The distinctive singer also made time for an acoustic cover of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Dancing In The Dark’.
